Golmud pumped-storage power station
The pumped-storage power station in Golmud, Qinghai Province, is the world’s largest high-altitude pumped storage power station, over 3,500 meters. With a capacity of 2400 MW, its first units will be operationalized in 2030.
Similar to a power bank, the pumped storage project stores excess energy when electricity is abundant and releases it during periods of high demand. This helps the local grid balance peak loads, support the growth of new energy sources, and promote regional development.
